I need opinions!!

One year ago today I took part in probably the most influential event of my life so far (and possibly ever). I was initiated into my sorority.

I tried writing something about what my sorority means to me, and it just turned into a whole Greek life thing and it was a bunch of rambling. I will make a post in defense of Greek Life eventually, I just need some time to get it right.

I got very emotional while writing it, because I am no longer a member of my sorority (because I'm not a full time student at the moment), but I plan on trying to reinstate next semester. I'm trying to not get my hopes up though because reinstatement is a very tricky process that starts all the way at the national level. I will be heartbroken if I'm never reinstated but I will forever be thankful for getting to experience one year (and all of the rituals included in that year) of Greek life.

sighhhhhh....

I'm kind of curious, what are all of your opinions on Greek life?? I'm trying to get my parents to understand why it has been such an important part of my life, so I guess I need some advice from some people who can honestly tell me how they feel about sororities and fraternities from the outside. All of my friends kind of sugar coat things, I think, in order to not hurt my feelings. But I would love to hear what you think about it, the good, the bad, and the ugly :)

Anyway, please comment and let me know what you think, this means a lot to me :)

  1. Isn't there some hazing in sorority/fraternity type stuff? I know not all of them do, but that would be the only thing that would make me not like sororities...
Anyway, if you like Greek Life, why does it matter what anyone else thinks? Do it if you love it and fuck the haters. :)

  2. aw which sorority is that?
Im part of the greek life at my school, but not the social ones. I did Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, until i didnt have time to complete all the hours and they became too clicky. I am pledging Phi Sigma Pi rite now. JUST found out my big <3 love her <3. Its a co-ed honors fraternity. I am not a fan of teh social ones at my school, cause all those girls only get shit faced and fuck everyone. not for me. But I looove PSP and everyone i have met!

  3. i don't know much about greek life but you guys do throw some fun parties lol. I just decided that it wasnt for me. All the girls seem so pretty and wear make up everyday and always have the best clothes....oh and at my university they like to wear nike athletic shorts and uggs in the winter. and they are stereotyped as being silly blondes. But i know there are plenty of exceptions. :)

  6. Scarlett, you could always try arguing that with sororities you meet a lot of people and make a TON of connections, and I know from my own life experiences that connections will get you EVERYWHERE in life.

Unfortunately frats and sororities aren't that common in Canada. Like, we DO have them, but not NEARLY as many as there are in the states. My school for example, has two frats (one is an actual Greek chapter and such, the other is specifically for my school haha) and we have NO sororities. So I can't really comment on how I feel about the Greek system, but I personally (minus the rumoured hazings)think that it's a great opportunity to make a ton of friends who you'll be able to count on for years
